What is Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is a hands-on intervention that manipulates the body’s soft tissues, such as the muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons and connective tissues. Its effects on health are attributed to its interaction with the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. Ultimately, the practice of Massage Therapy targets optimal health and well-being.

What to Expect During Your Treatments

It is important to ensure that it is safe for you to receive a massage treatment. Therefore, on your first appointment, you will be requested to arrive 10 minutes in advance to fill out a confidential case history form pertaining to your health. Your appointment will commence with a review of this form prior to your assessment and treatment.

At the beginning of each treatment, your therapist will perform an assessment, which will help you and your therapist formulate a personalized treatment plan. Your therapist will ensure an atmosphere of safety and privacy during every session. Your comfort and level of pain tolerance will be respected throughout the treatment.

Does the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) cover the costs of Massage Therapy?

Massage Therapy is not covered by OHIP. However, your workplace or private health insurance plan may provide such coverage. Consult your policy for details.
